JLD’S BAND – THE BINARY KIDS

Imagine Lady Gaga, Little Boots and Missy Elliott jamming at a house party and the sound would come close to the ear swashing loveliness of the Binary Kids.

Jenna Dickens and Kitty Cowell, complete with their geek glasses and computer game consoles, are whetting the appetites of tastemakers.

Despite not even having released a single they’ve appeared on Radio 1 Introducing in Wales, supported platinum selling group N-Dubz on tour and hit the recording studio with dance legends Basement Jaxx, the results of which appear on the Brit Award winners eagerly anticipated new album. Hammering out bangers of their own with co-d Semothy Jones (Lady Sovereign/ Little Boots/ Plan B), snippets of their own offerings are drawing the bloggers on-side.

Having only formed the Binary Kids in late 2008, following a chance meeting online, the teenagers decided to unite and let the force be with them.

Jenna, perfected her art through the keyboard, using it to escape an often-troubled home life and racial segregation in her area. Emceeing by the age of 10, the rap battles commenced at youth clubs and the local under 18s night. Also finding a love for vinyl, DJing allowed Jenna to spin tunes and add her own take, spitting lyrics over the beats. By the age of 12 she’d played at shows alongside Shola Ama and Omar, and been entered for the 1Xtra Battle Of The Nations show where she won the trophy for Wales, and coming third in the nationals. Not bad given most of the other competitiors were men who’d been slinging rhymes for a good while longer.
